1. Total Independence – Districts don’t have to join any group. 2. Free Market Options – Shop for insurance, legal, and policy services. 3. Better Alternatives – Lower costs, trustee-focused. 4. Political Agenda – Focus on divisive issues over education. 5. Parents Sidelined – Less voice in how schools are run. 6. “Team of 8” Undermines Trustees – Weakens elected board authority. 7. Lack of Transparency – Financial practices and conflicts questioned. 8. Monopoly Mindset – Acting like the only option for decades. 9. Poor Service – Slow responses, limited support. 10. Rising Costs – Insurance and service fees are out of order with market rates. This is just the beginning of MUCH needed change for districts across Texas Let’s live what INDEPENDENT means in ISD The I in ISD means Independent — not TASB-dependent Independent means free to choose — policies, services, and direction Independent = Self-Governed. Trustees, not TASB, lead the district I is for Independent. Local control, local voice, local choice An ISD should be Independent, not tied down Standing against establishment mindset that brought low reading scores across the nation and out of control spending. Vote FOR Monica Brown, David Rogers and Jessica Wark As a school board candidate, I’m committed to raising the level of conversation. I believe it is critical that we lead with clarity and honesty.
I believe the reason Charlie Kirk was shot is because people have literally lost their minds and basic self control over hearing someone else have a contrary opinion. Charlie Kirk is and was making a significant impact with his dialogue. His influence will now only be amplified. As an example the term “ban” or “bannned.” Words matter. Books or resources were never “banned” in Granbury ISD. Books were simply evaluated per the direction of the Governor and Commissioner of Education as well as backed by State lawmakers to determine if the resources met Granbury ISD policy as well as Texas policy. Resources are consistently under evaluation to determine their use or effectiveness. When they are not useful, they are discarded and/or replaced. Using the word “ban” or “banned” to vilify someone is not only inaccurate, it fuels unnecessary outrage and distracts from real, constructive dialogue. Words shape perception and can unify or build into more and more discord. Let’s be real - what help is it to use those terms in a civil society and false accuse others of what they did not do only to sow strife so there is more wreckless abandon to common sense, meanwhile students suffer with poor quality resources and their scores scream that something must change. It is no secret that students are struggling with reading across the nation and our great state. In Granbury, students leave a well run elementary school only to enter a Middle School where someone has an agenda to indoctrinate instead of educate. Note 108 copies of a book to use in classrooms promoting the false idea that books are “banned.” Notice this book is written for 3rd and 4th grade readers. “Twaddle” books for students need to be replaced with better literature - period. Better reading ability will naturally follow. Sure, you can get a student to read a 3rd grade book and have a discussion, but did that move the students skills and abilities forward for them? Did that prepare them or dumb them down? About this particular book: A fourth grader fights back when 'From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler' by E. L. Konigsburg is challenged by a well-meaning parent and taken off the shelves of her school library. Amy Anne is shy and soft-spoken, but don't mess with her when it comes to her favorite book in the whole world. Amy Anne and her lieutenants wage a battle for the books... as they start a secret banned books locker library, make up ridiculous reasons to ban every single book in the library to make a point, and take a stand against censorship"- Volunteer Executive Director for Cross Timbers - True Texas Project - Grassroots for the win!10/7/2025
Dedicated the first 60 seconds with silence out of respect and honor to Charlie Kirk and his stance for free speech. My General Comments: I am here for Accountability and Transparency On the 86 acres – why the drop in price by $750,000 since listing in mid July? Please explain that massive price drop to the community. Will you sell properties own by GISD for market rate or even less so the district as a whole can benefit from those funds rather than giving property away? (Decker Gym and United Way of Hood County Conflict of Interest and Lack of Transparency and Fiscal Responsiblity) Donations Received – that’s great! Question: If a local business can donate $12,000 to a local elementary school and improve campus trees and landscaping – what other projected needs and/or wants could be addressed by the community without a bond that indebts our children and grandchildren? Appraisal Appointments – As Trustees of GISD – you have a direct impact on the final bill tax payers pay each year. Please select fiscally conservative, proven board members for Hood County and the same for Parker and Johnson Counties – please only select fiscally conservative board members who will work with the No New Revenue Tax Rate idea and continue to support audits, forensic audits and total transparency with all three appraisal districts. Blue Bonnet math is a GREAT MOVE IN A GREAT DIRECTION to improve math scores – thank you! Please explain and help the community understand when you will support Blue Bonnet ELA and continue to support excellent, classical education for all students. As for Financial Statements – Please explain when and how you will use the $16.1 million revenue surplus that was announced earlier this year? When will the public know? In an effort for accountability and transparency – would you put up an expected timeline on your website so the citizens can all celebrate you using those funds wisely? What will happen to the line item for insurance now that Trustees Lowery and Bolton helped the district save $250,000 – what will the board do with those funds? Today’s Question about a Future Bond for Granbury ISD
Granbury Citizens. . .the current administration IS talking about the next bond - already. They have memos about a future bond and tax rate increase and they are meeting with parents and citizens with full intentions of another bond BEFORE the others are paid off and BEFORE there is a real need. Three failed bonds do not mean “try again” - they mean listen better. There are better ways to serve our students than debt and tax increases. Community solutions are stronger than top-down decisions. Let’s fix what we have, fund what we can with existing money and only borrow when ABSOLUTELY necessary and with FULL community buy-in. Also - could we all agree that much of what we already have is top notch and other communities would love to have what we have instead of pining for more. Let’s fix all we can and improve all we can before we talk about a bond. Let’s pull out that $16.1 million dollars plus the recent savings of $200,000 and decide how best to solve pressing issue that impact teachers and students. As long as you has property to sell and partially empty school buildings - do not ask for a bond - it is disingenuous. All possible solutions should be sought out and should be strongly supported by the community in a manner that does not increase the debt load for any of us and specifically not our children and our children’s children. Someone needs to stop the crazy spend cycle. 2nd Question of the Day - What About Decker Gym, United Way of Hood County and Granbury ISD? Granbury ISD belongs to the people of Granbury — not to insiders, not to private groups, and not to hidden deals. That’s why I’m speaking up about what happened with Decker Gym. Behind closed doors, Granbury ISD administrators worked to hand over Decker Gym — a publicly owned building — to a private nonprofit, United Way of Hood County, with the purpose of creating an incubator for nonprofits. (September 2024) That may sound like a nice idea on the surface, but how it happened — and who was excluded — tells a different story. Then in 2025 GISD proposed giving the property to United Way of Hood County or giving them a 99 year lease agreement. The deal was made without transparent public input and no, there is and was NO community-wide discussion. Even more troubling: the current GISD Board President, Courtney Gore, sits on the board of United Way of Hood County. She did not recuse herself from discussions involving this property transfer — a clear conflict of interest that violates public ethics. This situation undermines trust and integrity about how public assets are managed. What makes this more concerning is the selective control being exercised. Organizations like Toys for Tots — which serve hundreds of local children — were told they couldn’t store their supplies in the gym, even though there’s adequate space. Why? Because this is no longer a public space in practice. It’s being controlled by a narrow alliance — not by a transparent process. Let me be clear: I believe in supporting nonprofits. I believe in revitalizing historic buildings like Decker Gym. I do not believe in backroom deals, insider control, or exclusionary practices. As a community, we must do better — and we can. If elected, I will push for: Full transparency in how our facilities are managed. Community-driven decision-and an independent review of the Decker Gym arrangement. Granbury ISD doesn’t have a money problem — it has a transparency and logic problem. Vote FOR: David Rogers, Monica Brown and Jessica Wark - all proven conservatives who will govern over public money with accountability and transparency. Vote NO to the establishment mindset of Townsend (decades on the board of GISD) , Lawrence (longtime educator) and Neal (former Hyde Law firm Attorney) Hard Questions About Campaign Ethics
One candidate — an attorney and father of a GISD student — has crossed an ethical line by buying misleading domain names to confuse and harm his opponent’s reputation. This tactic violates the Texas Fair Campaign Practices Code and undermines the integrity of this election. In contrast, his opponent — a 22 year volunteer mother and active member of our school community — has run a campaign focused on respect, transparency, and real issues affecting our schools. In addition, a longtime trustee and candidate who has served Granbury ISD for over a decade, has remained silent despite these unethical tactics happening in plain sight in this upcoming election as well as the last election cycle. Also, there are two specific people who regularly get behind the “Establishment” candidates and actively campaign for them and have out of order, unethical behavior. Why would candidates choose to work with a man who was censored by the Republican Party of Hood County for his unethical behavior and his side kick who has proven to be unhinged and has attacked many conservative leaders in verbally and in writing? Granbury voters please ask these critical questions: • To the attorney-father: Why are you using deceptive tactics like buying domain names to attack your opponent instead of running a fair campaign based on issues? • To the volunteer mother: Will you continue to lead with honesty and focus on what truly matters for our students? • To the longtime trustee: Help us understand your silence? Will you speak up against unfair and unethical campaign practices and uphold integrity in our community? • To the sitting Trustees: Will you operate according to the stated ethics for school board members and will you speak up when your colleagues are out of order with Campaign Ethics? If a candidate cannot uphold basic ethics while asking for your vote, how can we trust them to act ethically in office? It’s time for all candidates to be held accountable. I contend that all will be MUCH BETTER in Granbury when Trustees follow written policy, especially related to ethics. Monica Brown for Granbury ISD Place 5, David Rogers for Granbury ISD Place 6, Jessica Wark for Granbury ISD Place 7 I totally support my mom running for school board. From helping me complete my education and that of several of my other siblings, to volunteering, to teaching me how to be politically involved. Together our family has walked door to door passing out candidate information, traveled back and forth to Austin, and pushed for Constitutional Values at the county and State level.
My mom has invested so much time in supporting me. From the moment she adopted me, to the time I graduated High School my mom has been there every day for me. I am fully supportive as she runs for school board to invest in other children’s lives as she invested in mine. |
