Conflict of interest between United Way of Hood County and Granbury ISD

2nd Question of the Day - What About Decker Gym, United Way of Hood County and Granbury ISD?

Granbury ISD belongs to the people of Granbury — not to insiders, not to private groups, and not to hidden deals. That’s why I’m speaking up about what happened with Decker Gym.
Behind closed doors, Granbury ISD administrators worked to hand over Decker Gym — a publicly owned building — to a private nonprofit, United Way of Hood County, with the purpose of creating an incubator for nonprofits. (September 2024) That may sound like a nice idea on the surface, but how it happened — and who was excluded — tells a different story. Then in 2025 GISD proposed giving the property to United Way of Hood County or giving them a 99 year lease agreement.

The deal was made without transparent public input and no, there is and was NO community-wide discussion.

Even more troubling: the current GISD Board President, Courtney Gore, sits on the board of United Way of Hood County. She did not recuse herself from discussions involving this property transfer — a clear conflict of interest that violates public ethics. This situation undermines trust and integrity about how public assets are managed.
What makes this more concerning is the selective control being exercised. Organizations like Toys for Tots — which serve hundreds of local children — were told they couldn’t store their supplies in the gym, even though there’s adequate space. Why? Because this is no longer a public space in practice. It’s being controlled by a narrow alliance — not by a transparent process.

Let me be clear: I believe in supporting nonprofits. I believe in revitalizing historic buildings like Decker Gym.

I do not believe in backroom deals, insider control, or exclusionary practices. As a community, we must do better — and we can.

If elected, I will push for:
Full transparency in how our facilities are managed.
Community-driven decision-and an independent review of the Decker Gym arrangement.
Granbury ISD doesn’t have a money problem — it has a transparency and logic problem.
Vote FOR: David Rogers, Monica Brown and Jessica Wark - all proven conservatives who will govern over public money with accountability and transparency.

Vote NO to the establishment mindset of Townsend (decades on the board of GISD) , Lawrence (longtime educator) and Neal (former Hyde Law firm Attorney)
